Southern blot hybridization with the DRab probe. The DRab probe was used to hybridize against the PvuII-digested chromosomal DNA previously used for IS6110 fingerprinting. Members of the W14 group had a single hybridizing band of a slight lower molecular weight than that of other W variants. In contrast, strain CDC1551, which is known to have an insertion within the direct-repeat locus, yielded two hybridizing bands, including one of higher molecular weight.
