Sites of impact of endotoxin and mycotoxins on sphingolipid metabolism. In PKD, renal sphingolipid formation is altered. Such compromised sphingolipid pathways would be expected to be vulnerable to these highly potent microbial toxins, especially during chronic exposure within renal cysts.
