  • To track the social impact of each article, EID displays Altmetric scores and citation counts for all articles published.

  • Each month, EID sends more than 65,000 subscribers an email featuring the table of contents for each issue.

  • Each month, EID sends between 12,000 and 50,000 subscribers an email for each of 25 different topical email alerts.

  • EID’s communications staff promotes the journal’s presence on X (Twitter), Instagram, and LinkedIn by creating and sharing social media content that highlights articles published in EID.

  • Each social media post includes the name of the article, name of lead author, and images from selected articles for each issue.

  • CDC-authored articles are sent to CDC’s National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases for reposting on the Center social media accounts.

  • A select number of authors from each issue are invited to be interviewed about their articles and the importance of their findings as part of EID’s podcast series.

  • Snippets of each podcast are created and shared on social media to increase the reach and impact of the message.

  • Articles from past issues and podcasts are promoted in the PDF version of EID that accompanies the online issue.

  • Relevant articles are included in the 15 spotlight topics on the EID website on the basis of subject matter.

  • Zoonotic articles are sent to CDC’s One Health office for posting in their regular messages to external team members.

Tips for Authors to Increase Impact of Your Article

  • Sharing your article on social media improves the chances of your article being found, read, downloaded, and cited.
  • When submitting an article, share your social media username(s) so that EID journal may tag you when publishing posts for your article.
  • Eye-catching photos, illustrations, short videos or GIFs, and infographics are more engaging than purely text-based posts. Include interesting visual content with your articles to capture people’s attention on social media and maximize its reach and impact.
  • Work with communication staff and the press office at your institution whenever possible to further your message through social media and news outlets.
