a MIR = minimal infection rate per 1,000 mosquitoes. MIR calculated as (number of WN virus-positive pools by RT-PCR/total mosquitoes tested) x 1,000. MIR was calculated only if a minimum of 1,000 mosquitoes was tested from a defined region throughout the season. None of the counties outside the epicenter met this criterion.
bNC = not collected.
cNA = not applicable because <1,000 mosquitoes were collected.
d Cx. pipiens and Cx. restuans were not separated and were pooled together.
