Testing was conducted on the basis of cases of severe pneumonia in hospitalized case-patients (<5 years of age), severe acute respiratory infection in hospitalized case-patients (>5 years of age), influenza-like illness, and acute respiratory infection in ambulatory case-patients (all age groups) identified as part of event-based, sentinel-site, and community-based surveillance systems.
