Symptom onset refers to the first symptom reported for the child including respiratory, gastrointestinal, hepatic, or systemic symptoms. Patients 1 and 2 were immunocompromised at the time of initial visit to emergency department or inpatient admission. Patient 3, initially immunocompetent, tested positive only after receiving a liver transplant during initial admission; before the transplant, the child had tested negative for adenovirus in respiratory, whole blood, and liver specimens.
